Sevilla have a mountain to climb if they want to get their hands on the Spanish Super Cup judging by today's match.
Jorge Sampaoli's team failed to pose a huge threat to Barcelona, who had numerous chances to score.
Barcelona almost took the lead in the sixth minute when Luis Suarez saw his close range effort well saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.
Apart from Rico's save, chances in the first half were few and far between. The main talking points were injuries to Iniesta (knee) and Mathieu (hamstring)
Injuries to the Barca pair meant that Denis Suarez and Lucas Digne made their debuts for the club.
In the second half, Suarez had a header well saved by Rico once again, although he didn't know too much about it.
Then just before the hour mark Barcelona finally broke the deadlock with a finely-worked move. Denis Suarez chipped a perfectly weighted ball forward to Arda Turan who chested it down to Luis Suarez who slotted past Rico.
Not long after this, Messi almost got on the scoresheet, but once again Sergio Rico proved to be Barcelona's nemesis.
With 10 minutes of normal time to be played, Barcelona managed to double their lead. Sevilla left gaps at the back while trying to push for an equaliser and Messi picked out substitute Munir, who scored with a lovely finish using the outside of his left boot.
Barcelona will be delighted with their performance. They came to a rocking Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, didn't give their opponents a sniff and created a number of chances.
Meanwhile for Sevilla, plenty of work still needs to be done if they wish to get to the level of the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico.
